By: Rick Quatraro

Are you still "happily" working on those hundreds of cold calls? Does it make you tired? Isn't it about time to get out of the cold and step inside to some warm leads? Or perhaps you can no longer wait for prospects to come to you and you need to start looking for new customers. If you work in direct consumer sales, especially some type of service industry, whether it's financial services, travel, or any direct sales role where you meet with clients in person or over the phone, you ALREADY have a gold mine of opportunities- your current clients!

Our current clientele quite often need updated advice and new services. In other cases you may sell products or services that becomes outdated or maybe you could offer add ons or upgrades." But how do we capitalize on these occasions and events? Maybe you already send cards and if that has worked out for you great! If not then we probably need to try something more creative, right?

Would you say that people notice when someone does something unique or the same old thing? This is where your kitchen becomes your secret weapon, and for those kitchen-challenged don't worry I will have a solution for you too.

There are many easy recipes to choose from out there that will please your clients' sweet tooth. When contacting many clients all at once you should choose a recipe that yields many small gifts. So if you are an insurance agent and you have some clients that don't own all your lines of business and a handful of their birthdays are coming up soon make a few batches of delicious chocolate covered apples with M&M toppings and add a note that says, "Sweet, it's your birthday! Let's get in touch soon so we make sure all your assets are covered just like your apple here." If you are a real estate agent and a family of three is having their second child within 4-6 months send them three big frosted sugar cookies decorated like a bed, one color for the sheet and white for the pillow, with a cute note that says, "Awesome! You're going to have a new member of the family. Since every one already has their own bed maybe we should get together there are some good deals out there on homes so the baby can have their own bed too and you can keep the office.Wait just a few days in order to arrange some time on your schedules to meet. You should have a prepared script to get new information on their current situation and circumstances.

There are many events or occasions in which to call on your current clients; anniversaries, retirement, new job, or simply saying thank you for past business and so on.Some of these recipes will require unique delivery techniques (seek advice from a local courier) to keep the items from melting or you don't wish to make them yourself you could visit a website to have them sent directly to some of your better clients since that could get more expensive.
