HTC Mogul Cell Phone Review
By: Sam Lee

The HTC Mogul is a good offering from HTC. Other than the flimsy back cover, the phone is quite solid to hold. There is a button for every function in the Mogul. There is a 5 way hat switch as well as a click wheel for navigation. The buttons, at first, seemed fairly overwhelming, but some of them were actually quite convenient.

Reading from the clear screen is considerably easy and navigating through the menus was not an issue, unlike some phones which we have reviewed so far. Overall, the design was very good.

The quality of the speakerphone is considered average and is not really audible in places with loud noise. Call quality is above average, though reception could go down in particular areas. The best feature of Windows Mobile, as always was the call history log. Battery life, at 6 hours talk time, was quite good and better than most of its peers.

Messaging is very good on the HTC Mogul (except for the lack of a program for Yahoo and AIM users). E-mail was easy to set up. For those who do not know how to setup Outlook, HTC Mogul can connect to the internet to retrieve setup profiles. Overall, messaging is a breeze on the HTC Mogul.

The scheduling and productivity part of the phone is very good, though there was a lag in performance. There were situations where we launched several applications but none opened. When sliding out the keyboard, there appears to have a slight lag in the reorientation of the screen display.

Though the calendar could use a face lift, you can't begrudge the way it works perfectly with Outlook. Office Mobile is present, which is also useful. The HTC Mogul does quite well when used as a modem for the computer. It recharges itself automatically when connected to the PC.

Internet Explorer is quite a good web browser and didn't show up any problems loading pages. However, it doesn't load flash items which are a bit of a disappointment. The click wheel comes in very useful while we were navigating through the internet.

It is nice to have A2DP for stereo Bluetooth, and a mini-USB to 2.5mm adapter, although a 3.5mm would have been better. The phone doesn't have GPS, however, which is quite disappointing. The HTC Mogul is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera which comes in useful for that occasional shot.

Considering all the features, the HTC mogul gives much value for its price point.
